Oil & Gas; Why Ondo State Lost Dangote’s Refinery to Lagos State.

By Our Correspondent

Ondo state lost Dangote Refinery to Lagos state as a result of the carelessness of the then governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko
This was revealed by Dr Dairo who was a former chairman of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state as reported by Legit.

He lamented that  Dr Mimiko -led Labour party government of abandoned most of the projects of his predecessor.

In the same vein, Governor Akeredolu says Dangote Refinery should have been sited in Ondo state if Segun Mimiko’s administration had acted in good faith.
Akeredolu said such a rare opportunity must not be lost again in the state, even as he encouraged community leaders and the people to always encourage and support projects that can develop their areas.

He explained that the refinery would have created jobs for thousands of youths and greatly contributed to the socio-economic development of the state.

He made this known while addressing traditional rulers and community leaders during the 2021 Rural Appreciation Day. “How I wish we were here then. I would be asking him how many hectares of land he needed.

In fact, I will still ask if it was not enough, we would have been ready to add more. No string attached. “My colleague, Fashola told me that Dangote came to Lagos and brief him about his intention to relocate the siting of the refinery to Lagos state.

He said they only asked him, how many hectares of land he needed. And even added more late “Last week, one of my Special Advisers got married at a location very close to the refinery in Lekki, Lagos State. It was their closing time and we saw how people were trooping out of the place.

The population of workers there is very huge. I got so emotional. I asked, how could we have lost this huge investment in Ondo state? It is very painful that we lost Dangote Refinery to Lagos state. Very painful.

We will ensure that no meaningful and impactful investment will be lost in this state. We are very serious about this” Akeredolu emphasised.

It would be recalled that Dangote Refinery was initially meant to be set up in Ondo State before it was later moved to Lagos State under the immediate past administration.
