Breaking: Three Students, 2 Local Govt. Staff Escape Being Crushed As Container Fall In Ota death

Three school pupils and two local government cleaners, on Tuesday, had a close shave with death when a 40 feet container fell down in front of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Secretariat in Ogun State.

It was reported that the students and the cleaners who were able to see the reckless driving of the truck that carried the container as it was negotiating a bend, quickly dashed away few meters from the falling container, thus escaped being crushed.

The Area Commander of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, TRACE, Adekunle Ajibade, who confirmed the incident to TheCaveat.info, said that no life was lost in the accident.

Ajibade attributed the cause of the accident, which occured at about 7.00 am, to excessive speeding and reckless driving.

“TRACE and other sister agencies moved in immediately, and because it happened on the major road of Anglican/Awolowo road, we had to quickly engaged the services of private Crane and Flatbed operators. Thank God that no life was lost in the lone accident which involved only the container.”he said.

It was also gathered that the driver, very much believing the container must have fallen upon the lucky narrowly escaped victims, ran away from the scene and absconded.

Ajibade said that the container had no registration number and driver had absconded, leaving the truck and container on the road before TRACE personnel and other sister agencies got to the scene of the accident.

The Area Commander warned motorists against over speeding and ensure that their vehicles are always in good condition before putting them on the highways.

He further urged owners of articulated trucks and containers to always caution their drivers against over speeding and wrongful overtaking to prevent mishaps on the road.

Ajibade stressed the need for truck owners to always hook up their containers to the vehicles to avoid falling on the highway, which often result to loss of lives.

He said that the container had been towed off the road to TRACE Office and to enable free flow of traffic in the area.
