Ogun Monarch Assassination: Olowu In Council Talk Tough Over Installation Of Oba Odetola As Olu Of Agodo

The Agodo Chiefs on Thursday reacted to the statement credited to Olowu-in Council on the status of the slained monarch, Oba Odetola Olajide Ayinde, saying that the late Oba Odetola was legally crowned as Olu of Agodo town by Ake through Egba Traditional Council Obas.

Reacting to a statement signed by Akogun of Owu, Chief Ishola Akinsipo, on behalf of Owu in Council Chief Adekunle Odetola, a family member to the deceased monarch said the Kabiyesi was legally appointed as Olu of Agodo via a letter dated 17th April, 2018 with reference no CHM.1/86/9 and signed by Dolapo Adewumi, Director, Chieftaincy Affairs on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Chief Odetola said after the official appointment by the government, Kabiyesi was then installed as the Olu of Agodo by the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.

It could be recalled that in the statement issued by Owu in Council, it claimed that on no occasion has the Agodo community, with a Baale in situ,  has contested or applied to Olowu or Alake Egba for the uplifting of their Baale to Coronet.  

"From time immemorial, Agodo village which has been a multi-clan community from Abeokuta had been in peace until some six years ago when some hoodlums besieged the environment to grab the community's land".

"Report's available at our disposal in Owu Kingdom indicate the man who claimed to be Oba in Agodo village had been involved in land disputes with Agodo people which had caused bad blood among him, accompanied hoodlums and the Agodo community. 

"In 2016, for instance, Agodo village was thrown into a turmoil following an alleged attempt by the man and some thugs to bury a corpse in Agodo village as a decoy to establish ancestry to the land.

But countering the claim of Owu in Council, the Agodo Chiefs said the late Kabiyesi was never a land speculator.

The letter of appointment which emanated from the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and signed by Director, Chieftaincy Affairs, Dolapo Adewumi dated 17th April, 2018, and address to Oba Odetola Olajide Ayinde, Olu of Agodo, Aàfin Agodo conveyed the news of the appointment of the late monarch to him.

The letter read,  "I have the greatest pleasure to inform Kabiyesi that in accordance with Sub Section (1) and (2) of Section 25 of the Chiefs Law, Laws of Ogun of Nigeria, 2006, the government of Ogun State of Nigeria has approved your appointment as the first Kabiyesi Alayeluwa Olu of Agodo, Agodo in Ewekoro local government area with effect from 11th April, 2018."

"Kabiyesi is advised to liaise approximately with the Egba traditional council for their briefing.

He said Agodo town can not be referred to as a multi clan as from the history, only Egba Ake has been the original land owner in the town.

"The late Oba was properly installed, we have a palace in Agodo, though we are still working on the renovation of the palace, but we do held meetings, there, the Owus should not come and distort history.

These people are very callous, even if you arrest a common criminal, that does not say you should take law into your hands and behave anyhow.
