No fewer than 12 Prince have been jostle for the vacant Stool of Soun of Ogbomoso after the demise of the late Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III,
It was reliably gathered that 12 prospective heirs to the throne have indicated interest in becoming the next Soun from the Laoye Ruling Family, the lineage to produce the next king. And forms for interested candidates vying for the highly exalted throne are being sold for N500,000.00 per head by the ruling family.
The amount, which some family members objected to as being on the high side, according to a family source, is intended to reduce or streamline the number of interested persons from the ruling house.
As at the time, 12 persons have so far picked up the form which according to the source would close soon after which an interview will be conducted for successful candidates by the kingmakers in the ancient city.
It was also gathered that a successor is to be announced after the 41 days Fidau prayer and funeral celebrations of the late Soun Oyewunmi who reigned for 48 years
Though unconfirmed, the source further hinted that the late monarch had before his demise, wished that the kingmakers name a successor within three weeks after his exit in order not to create a vacuum in the kingdom.
Oba Jimoh Oyewumi joined his ancestors on December 12, 2021 at the age of 95 years.
