The District 404B1 International Association of Lions Clubs, yesterday, February 8, engaged both primary and secondary schools in Ota axis, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State with Athletics to boost their moral in the cause of fighting against childhood cancer.
The remarkable event, tagged: Run To Fight Childhood Cancer Awareness Race”, was held at At Ota Mini Stadium, St Michael African Church Primary School, Ota. Lions colour T-shirts inscribed with campaign against childhood cancer, writing and other school materials were gifted to the children, aimed at strengthen their joyous mood and to enable them fully participate in the awareness campaign against the killer disease.

Speaking at the event, the District 404B1 Governor, Rasheed Olasunkanmi Ologundudu, said the way to reduce the effect of the killer decease in the society is to engage in massive advocacy, sensitization, awareness campaign, and educating the populace on the causes, treatment centres, procedures and preventions.
He said Lions Clubs would not relent from the enlighten the public against the paediatric cancer, urging parents to always shun the traditional belief of liking the causes of paediatric cancer to spiritual or superstitions.
The childhood cancer awareness campaign project chairperson, Mrs Nofisat Etiko, in her address said paediatric cancer has over some years taken the lead in the cause of children’s death.
While stressing the need for the programmes to be carried out for the sake of innocent children who are victims or potential victims of this disease, explained that approximately, almost 300,000 children from 0 age to 19 years old are diagnosed with cancer every year around the world.
She appealed to community members to support in ensuring the successful execution of this awareness and sensitization campaign to the service of the vulnerable children affected by cancer.
