6th Wasinmi Summer Soccer Championship to hold from July 28 to August 14

The Organizers of the annual Wasinmi Summer Soccer Championship has said that the annual football fiesta will hold from Thursday July 28, to August 14, 2022.

The soccer event which will take place at Six centers in Wasinmi, Ewekoro local government area of Ogun State is being put together by Unique Heights Sports Management Nigeria Limited in collaboration with Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy.

Addressing the Press on the readiness for the 6th edition held at Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka's Hall, Wasinmi, the convener of the youth development programme, Coach Victor Agbagu x-rayed the success stories of the annual soccer fiesta and the plan to make the sixth edition a success.

Speaking on the theme of the edition, Priortizing Our Value System For Nation Building In Nigeria: The Role of Sports And The Youths', Agbagu said that there are six categories to be competed for, the Male Under 10, under 13, under 15, under 17 free age and then the female free category.

Coach Victor Agbagu said ” This is an annual event brought about by the interest we have seeing children on the streets of Wasinmi, in Ewekoro Local government and in Ogun State at Large playing football and then we started looking for platforms where we can showcase them”

“We thought it was pertinent to assist the kids go off the street and project their talent to the world and we came up with this idea of Wasinmi summer soccer Championship in 2017”

“And since then, we thank God that it has grown from strength to strength, this is the Sixth edition. 

When we started in 2017 we had just three categories, now we have six and we are even looking forward to making it better”.

The organizers, Unique Sports Management Nigeria Limited in conjunction with Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy through the Local organizing committee made it known that measures have been put in place to ensure an hitch free tournament before, during and after the event.

He revealed that the soccer event has opened doors of opportunities for participants both the coaches and youths to access opportunities in their chosen career by combining soccer with academics.

He said that the Unique Heights Sports Management also monitors the career progression of the youths by ensuring that they do not falls into the hands of cheats and other challenges.

Representative of the Community, Chief Isa Bello, who is Osi of Wasinmi assured that Wasinmi is ready to host the All youths event and assured of necessary support.

He enumerated some economic and social advantages that the community has been benefiting from the annual event, expressing satisfaction and gave kudos to the organizers, Unique Heights Sports Management Nigeria Limited under the Leadership of coach Victor Agbagu.

 “Let me cease this opportunity to congratulate and appreciate coach Victor Agbagu for sustaining this initiative, it has been a long way coming and as  the host Community, we are ready to host you and very elated, I want to assure everyone coming around for the tournament that Wasinmi is very safe and we are looking forward to hosting everyone”.

Also present at the press conference were the representatives of the coaches and referees council, strategic chiefs of Wasinmi, other sports enthusiasts among others.
