Alleged election rigging: Why Abiodun, Amosun must be probed – NNPP

By Jumoke Adeogun, Abeokuta

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called for the investigation into the alleged rigging of the 2019 general elections in Ogun state by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr Olaposi Oginni, the Chairman of NNPP in Ogun, stated this during a news conference held at the party secretariat in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Oginni noted that few days ago, former governor Ibikunle Amosun had accused the incumbent, Dapo Abiodun of rigging himself into office.

He explained that Amosun had recently in a public fora said that some of the APC members who perpetrated the rigging had confessed and begged him to forgive them.

He stated that NNPP in the state was concerned about the 2023 general elections, saying that election riggers were supposed to be punished and sanctioned

The NNPP chairman added that the possibilities of these same character exploiting the processes of their rigging machineries in Ogun state in 2023 remained high and destructive if not checkmated.

“We are calling for the investigation of Gov. Abiodun’s APC rigging machineries as alleged by Amosun.

” Similarly, Amosun must be ready to help the law enforcement agents on the probe of the 2019 governorship election riggers.

” He must come out to mention names of APC members who participated in the rigging exercise of the Election that produced Abiodun.

” We’re therefore calling on the Chairman of EFCC to Investigate Gov. Dapo Abiodun and APC leadership on this subject matter.

“Also we are calling on the Inspector General of Police and the Director of DSS to invite Amosun to shed more lights on the APC members who he accused of culpability in the 2019 electoral fraud in the state,” he said.

Oginni opined that recognising the fact that an allegation of electoral fraud by an eight years governor and a sitting senator of Federal Republic of Nigeria was weighty enough not to be treated with levity.

He called for the comprehensive probe of those alleged and holistic investigation of the matter to pave way for a free , fair and credible elections in 2023.
