A member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, representing Yewa North 1 State Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju has facilitated the registration of 200 members of his constituency for the State Health Insurance Scheme.
Speaking while overseeing the enrollment exercise, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker said the beneficiaries would enjoy the Scheme's social safety for 12 months free of charge, saying they no longer have to pay out-of-pocket for basic healthcare within the time frame.
Coker, represented by the Executive Secretary, Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu, described health insurance as the fastest route to achieving Universal Health Coverage by 2030, calling on political office holders and philanthropists to emulate the gesture as a means of showing benevolence to the less privileged in the society.
"What Honourable Adegoke Adeyanju has done for his constituents today is remarkable. I want to urge those who have a means of economic empowerment to come on board. With just N12,000 yearly, you can access our robust benefits package without paying a single kobo from your pocket. Our goal is to make healthcare accessible to all citizens in the nearest future", she said.
In his remark, Hon. Adeyanju said his decision to pay for the enrollment of the beneficiaries hinged on the Governor's call to political office holders to use the Scheme as a platform for empowering the less privileged in their respective constituencies.
