OGSG To Boost Water Supply, Construct 14,500 Reservoir Tank

Poised to ensure a steady and regular potable water supply across the nooks and crannies of Ogun State, the State government has begun the construction of a 14,500 reservoir tank at the Oke-Temidire in Abeokuta South Local Government Area.

Speaking after her familiarisation tour to various facilities of the Ogun State Water Corporation, Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Hon. Olufemi Ilori- Oduntan, said construction work on the reservoir would be completed by November this year, adding that the government was taking various measures at ensuring that the people enjoy a regular flow of water, as it is very essential to their existence.

"The government understands the need to ensure regular potable water supply and we are working tirelessly to meet this very important need. We have also carried out pipe laying and reticulations for distribution network in Obantoko area, installed prepaid water meters in various homes for seamless billings and intend to extend this across the State", she said.

The Commissioner disclosed that other measures taken by the government to enhance the steady flow of water include, rehabilitation of the dam gates in Arakanga in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the State, and expansion of the main water treatment plant also in Arakanga, among others.

She commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for giving necessary attention to water resources sector, promising more government interventions across all the State's water facilities with the view to ameliorating the shortage of water.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry,  Dr. Rotimi Akinlesi said the inspection was insightful, assuring that all hands would be on deck to sustain the ongoing intervention at the Arakanga Water Scheme.

Responding, the General Manager, Ogun State Water Corporation, Engr. Oluseye Maku, said the Corporation was keen on increasing the capacity and water locations across the State and reducing commercial losses, pointing out that, when the projects are fully completed, the challenge of irregular water supply would be a thing of the past.
