The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has made a pronouncement changing the name of the Ogun State College of Health Technology Ilese, Ijebu to the Ogun State Polytechnic of Health Sciences and Allied Sciences, Ilese, Ijebu-Ode.
Abiodun made this known during an engagement with the students of the institution, on Wednesday, during a campaign tour of Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of the state.
He disclosed that the institution with its new status would soon have a substantive Rector.
Abiodun while emphasizing that he was the only one that can make such a pronouncement, added that his administration would continue to support the development of education in the state.
" I, Dapo Abiodun, the Governor of Ogun State, hereby, pronounce that this institution formally called Ogun State College of Health Technology is hereby renamed Ogun State Polytechnic of Health Sciences and Allied Sciences.
"This institution will now begin to occupy its pride of place among the comity of polytechnics in the country, I want to congratulate you on this elevation, and I want to assure you that very soon, you will have a substantive rector.
"I am making that pronouncement today, the 15th of February, 2023, I am the only one that can come here and make such an announcement; others can come here and make empty promises," he said.
Governor Abiodun further noted that his administration would continue to look out for the welfare of students in the state, assuring the students that his administration would look at the issue of their nursery and ensure its immediate payment.
While promising that work would begin on the internal road of the institution in the next one week, also promised that the Ilese road which was recently re-awarded by his administration would soon be completed.
"I want to apologize for the deplorable condition of this road, but as you can see that work has started on the road, I have re-awarded that contract to a reputable contractor and very very soon, you will see this road wearing a good look.
"I am also aware of the situation of your internal roads, I have instructed the Commissioner for Works to come here immediately, within the next one week and begin work in your internal roads.
Earlier in his remarks, the Student Union Government President of the institution, Rafiu Olawale Rilwan, while acknowledging Governor Abiodun for his support to the development of the institution, asked for the renaming of the institution.
Meanwhile, the governor has officially inaugurated the Erunwon-Atan Road in Ijebu North East Local Government area of the state an another 8km Molipa Expressway in Ijebu-Ode.
Speaking, Governor Abiodun, described the road as an arterial road linking so many towns in the local government.
He added that the road which was inherited by his administration was completed for the benefit of the people.
Abiodun added that the road which was identified as a very critical road in the local government was quickly embarked upon by his administration, having been abandoned by the immediate past administration.
He disclosed that his administration had constructed over 400km of roads in the last three and half years, stressing that his administration would not stop until all road networks in the state are motorable.
In another development, Governor Abiodun has assured the Hausa Community, Kara Imowo Eleran in the local government that a new electricity transformer would be delivered to the community in the next twenty-four hours to help improve power supply in the area.
He added that he would personally build an Islamic and Arabic school for the community, saying that his administration would also provide a water and drainage system for their use.
Earlier, the Seriki of the Hausa Community, Kara Imowo Eleran, Alhaji Mustapha Dangada, who appreciated Governor Abiodun for fulfilling the promises he made to their community when he came to ask for their vote in 2018, had asked the governor to provide water, electricity and drainage for their use.
