Lagos Police delacre poultry farmer wanted for beating herdsmen to coma

The Lagos state Police have declared one Akeem Opeyemi Yusuff wanted over the allegation of beating two herdsmen to coma, and inflicting injury on them.

It was gathered that Akeem, who is a popular poultry farmer in Agbele area of Ikorodu, Lagos state took to his heels after the incident.

Akeem, also known as Akeem Aladie (Akeem who rare hens) is a residence of no 19, Alhaji Lawal Animashaun street, Agbele in Ikorodu Central Local Government area of Lagos state.

The father of three is a farmer who rare chickens and pigs in the area, where he also resides, and also plant some vegetables within the area.

It was learnt that on Tuesday July 4th, 2023, Akeem had set trap for the herdsmen, who usually destroy his farmland with their cows.

It was alleged that some herdsmen had used their cows to graze on Akeem's farmland, where he planted vegetables and cassava, destroying the farm.

Sometimes in May, we learnt that Akeem went to a nearby Police station to report that two herdsmen destroyed his farmland with their cows, and he could not do anything.

The Police, according to a source did not act on the information, reason he started looking for another alternative to deal with those herdsmen.

Akeem also went to the community leaders in the area, those who are aware on what is happening in the area for long.

Our reporter learnt that Akeem had reported on two occasions to the Police, and no steps taken so far.

It was gathered that on Tuesday, the herdsmen came with not less than Cows to graze in the area, including Akeem's farmland around 10:25pm.

A community member who had sighted them rushed to inform Akeem, who later went with his brother to confront them.

At the seen, their argument later turned to violence were they injured Akeem and his brother. Akeem's leg was broken during the fight and the herdsmen too were seriously wounded.

Akeem, it was learnt that he beat them to stupor, inflicting injury on them before taking to his heels.

Grace Olusakin, a community member told our reporter that the herdsmen made contact with other members, and they came around with weapons to kill Akeem.

"We heard that Akeem beat the herdsmen, and they were gasping on the floor. We can't go out, but we were listening from the room, because it's too dark.

"We heard the herdsmen crying for help, and some people went their to see what was happening. They informed the Police that night." 

A police who confirmed to our reporter said the two herdsmen were recuperating in the hospital, and their cows has been arrested for further investigation.

The Police said, Akeem has been declare wanted for beating the herdsmen, saying it's against law.

While confirming to our reporter, the Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin said he is aware of the incident, and they have started investigation.

Hundeyin said though they are yet to ascertain the whereabout of Akeem, but said he will be prosecuted when finally arrested..
