Member of Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Wahab Abiodun Egungbohun has warned "faceless group" claiming to be Yewa Elites to steer clear of the issue of Deputy Speaker and concentrate its focus elsewhere.
The lawmaker, representing Yewa North State Constituency (II) described some of the write ups from Hon. Ajayi Bolanle Lateefat's supporters as capable of creating another rift on the issue of Deputy Speakership position.
He said it was regrettably that the faceless group failed to know the zoning arrangement of political offices, challenging the group " Yewa Elites" to come out in person and nominate Hon. Ajayi as Deputy Speaker on Tuesday.
The lawmaker who also hinted about his close relationship with Hon. Ajayi Bolanle, described her as a nice person, saying that she has personally talked to him on the Deputy Speakership position.
He said it's so disheartening to see some group to come out again, after the issue has been resolved by some political class in the state.
According to him "the issue of Deputy Speakership is a serious issue, though the state Governor has introduced his choice of candidate which is Hon. Ajayi Bolanle but majority of the lawmakers are not pleased with the decision"
"Governor Abiodun, Sen.Olamilekan Yayi and some political class, including my personal brother, Alhaji Dende Egungbohun have called me on this issue to be calm and I have listened to them by letting it go"
"We all know the zoning arrangement and process of political offices but the fact that we didn't talk doesn't mean we are ignorance of it, and the issue of female gender shouldn't be a yardstick for the position as it wasn't used in National/red chamber."
"I'm happy that the position was zoned to Yewa, Governor didn't force Hon. Ajayi on us, he appealed to us because he know the selection process but the reason of her choice is best known to him, so why some faceless people coming out to defend injustice?"
"We have people like Hon. Musefiu, Hon. Akingbade, Hon. Awoso and myself who are also qualified, so the issue of gender shouldn't be mentioned in this case, myself are still canvassing for her because she's not a bad person to me and i won't want the position to be zoned to another district but nobody or any group should "stop" seeing her as most qualified for the position.
"I have vowed not to address media on this Deputy Speakership whatever, if not because of my attention that was called upon on the recent write up by the some people claiming to be Yewa Elites canvassing support for Hon. Ajayi as if "she's most qualified" among us, though I see them as faceless group because their names was not mentioned.
"If it's the said "Yewa Elites" that will nominate for us in the 10th Assembly, we are expecting them to come to house on Tuesday to nominate Hon. Ajayi Bolanle Lateefat as Deputy Speaker."
Hon. Wahab who equally wish Hon.Ajayi success in her new nomination, appealed to the political class to discontinue any action that could further divide the 10th legislators.
It would be recalled that the opposition party PDP recently alleged that the state Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun moved to truncate the zoning arrangement of Deputy Speakership Position plot to adopt Hon. Ajayi Bolanle, representing Yewa South State Constituency as Deputy Speaker emerged.
Despite the fact that majority members of house have agreed on the decision of Governor Abiodun over the choice of Oluomo as Speaker, but the choice of Deputy Speaker has become a controversy as majority members including all the lawmakers from Yewa North/Imeko Afon federal constituency has kicked against Governor Abiodun choice, Hon. Ajayi Bolanle Lateefat.
But, Hon. Egungbohun appealed to all sundry including legislators colleagues to remain calm and give necessary support that is needed to Hon. Ajayi to be able to succeed in her new office that is yet to be formerly announced.
