Ogun Deputy Speakership: Yewa Elites Support Hon Bola Lateefat Ajayi

By Our Correspondent

As part of the efforts towards ensuring good representation aimed at achieving better legislation in Ogun State, some elites in Ogun West Senatorial District have started drumming support for Hon. Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi as the next Deputy Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA).

Speaking today at the thanksgiving service held at the Central Mosque, Ilaro in honour of the senator representing Ogun West, Olamilekan Adeola Solomon (aka, Yayi), some of the elites threw their support for Hon. Ajayi to claim the exalted position of Deputy Speaker.

An elder who preferred anonimity disclosed that, “Hon. Ajayi is a good politician who carries her people along irrespective of party affiliations or differences”.

He stated further that, “Ogun West should be given adequate consideration in selecting the best candidate for the Deputy Speakership position which should not be any other person than, Hon Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi”.

Meanwhile, supports have started coming in for the 2 term-elected legislator over the report credited to a particular online news blog condemning Gov. Dapo Abiodun’s choice of Hon. Ajayi for the position.

Women groups, Okada riders, market women, student associations in Ogun West Senatorial District have vow to continue to support the legislator based on her generosity, competence and experience possessed to perform as the Deputy Speaker, no matter the level of propaganda that may be adopted by the opposition.

It would be recalled that, Hon. Ajayi became the first Legislator to be returned back to the House in the modern era in Yewa South Constituency after poling simple majority result to defeat Hon. Alaba Adewunmi of People’s Democratic Party during the 2023 general elections.

Feelers from the political circle indicates that, the issue of Speakership position may well have been settled, while that of Deputy Speaker is likely to be settled within the next few days. It wouldd be recalled that, Ogun State politics is known for giving room for gender balance in the running of government.

This position has since been uphed by Gov. Dapo Abiodun led administration since its inception. With the Deputy Governor, Engr (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele being a woman, it remains to be seen, if the same gesture can be replicated at the OGHA where the pendulum can swing for a female legislator to be elected as the Deputy Speaker.
