Arrest of A Lawyer Femi Oniyide, Urge NBA to Sanction Mike Ozekhome over Malicious Allegations ...Caution HURIWA On Ethical Standards

By Kolawole Olayinka, Abeokuta

The Coalition of Ogun East Youth Forum (COEYF), has commended the security operatives for the arrest of a lawyer, Femi Oniyide, and called for the sanctioning of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mike Ozekhome SAN by the Nigeria Bar Association and other regulating bodies of the bar profession. It will be recall that the Department of State Security Services DSS had earlier arrested one Femi Davis who was later released recently after spending 10days behind the bar.

The group also condemned the predisposition of the Human Right Writers Association HURIWA  calling on the right association to always carry out discrete investigations before dabbling into a matte that infringes on the right of an individual else they would soon lose their credibility for selfish aggrandizement.

This arrest was made based on a petition written against him by solicitors to the SSG Adepeju Jayeoba.

Our organization, Coalition Of Ogun East Youth Forum (COEYF) In a Communique issued and signed by the Convener of the Forum, Comrade Akeem Temitope Akilo, and 16 other leaders of various groups across Ogun East Senatorial District, in Ijebu Ode, on Monday, 7th August 2023 had earlier called for the arrest of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, Barr. Femi Oniyide and their accomplice for malicious falsehood and criminal defamation against the person of the Secretary to the State Government of Ogun State, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, and a company, Superflux International Limited.

We applaud the swift and decisive action taken by our diligent security operatives, the Nigeria Police Force in apprehending Lawyer Femi Oniyide. As concerned citizens that believe in the rule of law,  we however urge the security operative to also arrest the said Senior Advocate of Nigeria Mike Ozekhome for questioning over his deliberate attempt to mislead the agencies of government.

The allegations against Mr. Oniyide and Mike Ozekhome include criminal threats to life, malicious falsehood, criminal defamation, and misuse of their connection to the Police and the Bar. These are serious allegations that cannot be ignored, and we are pleased that the authorities have taken swift action to investigate and apprehend the suspects while calling for the sanctioning of Mike Ozskhome who should be in a position to uphold the principle of the judiciary but decided to do otherwise because of selfish reasons.

We believe that justice must be served and that those who engage in criminal activities must be held accountable for their actions. We urge the security operatives to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter and ensure that Mr. Oniyide is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if found guilty.

With the arrest of Mr. Oniyide, it is clear that the security operatives have demonstrated their unwavering commitment to upholding the law and protecting citizens from harm. We commend their swift action in addressing this matter, ensuring due process, and laying the groundwork for a thorough investigation.

The legal profession holds a crucial role in society, and we must maintain trust in its practitioners. Cases like this remind us of the importance of acting swiftly and decisively to combat any behavior that tarnishes the reputation of that profession.

As this case unfolds, we trust that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly, impartially, and by the principles of justice. It is paramount that justice is served, and if found guilty, appropriate measures are taken to prevent any further malfeasance.

We encourage all members of the legal community to remain committed to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics. Together, we can continue to reinforce public trust in our legal system and reaffirm our dedication to the pursuit of justice.

We also call on all members of the society to promote peace and harmony and reject any form of criminal activity or behavior that may cause psychological torture and threatens the safety and well-being of Nigerian citizens.
