In the last three weeks, 30 young secondary school children whose ages are between 11 and 17 years were taking through intensive and rigorous skills in Information and Communications Technology as packaged and powered by Oladunjoye Resource Centre, a not-for-profit, non-governmental Organization, located in Ijebu-Itele, Ijebu East Local government area of Ogun state.
Of course this is a portion of what the Centre has been doing since it berthed in Ijebu East in 2004. It has so far produced over 300 beneficiaries who are empowered with Microsoft Office Tools and internet browsing among others. Most of them are currently doing well in their chosen careers.
The 2023 Summer Camp programme kicked off on Monday, August 21st, 2023 and came to a close on Thursday, September 7th. 2023.
The instructors were drawn from among the capable tutors in Ijebu East LG. Classes held from 9:00am through 2:pm, Monday to Thursday. At the end of the third week, the beneficiaries who could hitherto not even power a laptop computer, can now use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet conveniently to the amazement of even their facilitators.
Speaking at the brief closing ceremony, the Founder of the Centre, Comrade Ambassador Olatunde Ayinde Oladunjoye, urged the trainees to imbibe the spirit of giving back to society when they grow older saying that “we can't leave the development of society to government alone.” At the end of the day, all the trainees and their instructors were given certificates of participation and commendation respectively.
