Police in Ogun State has alleged that the arrested student of Tai Solarin University of Education, Abdul-Azeez Ibrahim, has been responsible, alongside his team, for serial attacks on students and members of the public in Ijebu Ode axis.
Abdul-Azeez, who is said to be nicknamed 'Butcher', hitman and armourer of Supreme Aiye Confraternity, was arrested on Friday, ijegun Ijebu Ode, by the police.
Parading the suspect on yesterday at the command's headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, Ogun State, the state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu said Abdul-Azeez's was arrest following intelligence received from members of the public.
The suspect is said to be an extra year student of the department of Library and Information Science in TASUED.
"Upon intelligence received that one Abdul-Azeez Ibrahim a.k.a Butcher of Imaweje Community by Tai Solarin University of Education Ijagun Campus, Ijebu-Ode Ogun State, an acclaimed extra year student of the department of Library and information science 2023/24 academic session of the said TASUED happens to be the armourer for the said supreme Aiye confraternity.
"Subject and his gang have been responsible for the serial attacks on students and innocent members of the public within and around Ijebu Ode axis.
"He was trailed to his criminal hideout where the following firearms were recovered from his room."
While speaking on the studentship of the accussed person, the Registrar of TASUED, Dapo Oke said Abdul-Azeez is a former student of the University who had graduated and signed his clearance from the University.
According to him, he's one of the former students who had finished from the university but have refused to return home, parading themselves as union leaders.
Oke said, "Criminals are everywhere, they have no colour or means of identification. He was our student but he has graduated, instead of going home, he didn't go home, he stayed around perpetrating those evils.
"He's one of those characters who finish in school but instead of going home, they won't go home, some of them will be parading themselves as students leaders, some of them will claim having small businesses on campus and the society is to free that you can't chase then away until they commit crimes like this.
"He's one of them, he has finished and he didn't go home, not knowing he's perpetrating evils. Thank God he has been caught, others in his shoes would definitely know that they can not be having free day everyday. We thank the police for the good job.
"He's only trying to justify his being around, he has graduated and has signed his clearance. He's no longer our student. He's not supposed to be around for any reason."
Oke said the University will not be taking any step against Abdul-Azeez until he is tried by competent court and found guilty or otherwise.
"Until he's proven guilty by a competent court of law, that's when the university will be thinking of taking any action. We will be waiting for the judicial process.
"He can't collect result for now, he can't be mobilised for the NYSC, we shall be waiting for the process. After which the university will be taking all necessary action."
Exhibits recovered from the suspect, according to Alamutu, include one serviceable browning pistol loaded with four rounds of live ammunition and its magazine; one pump action riffle Jojet with 10 rounds of live cartridges; one English short double barrel riffle; two locally made short single barrel riffles; one locally made revolver pistol loaded with two rounds of live ammunition; and assorted criminal charms.
