Ijebu North-East Local Government Area of Ogun State, in partnership with the Education Care and Support Foundation, has commissioned a block of 10 toilet facilities at St. Joseph Primary School, Odotu/Odogbe community in the Area.
Chairman, Ijebu North-East Local Government, Hon. Badejo Folusho, said the construction of the modern toilet facilities would take care of both male and female learners, as well as teachers, pointing out that the project was possible through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.
Hon. Folusho expressed gratitude to the Foundation for their efforts, emphasising that provision of the toilets would significantly improve sanitation, hygiene, safety and eliminate open defecation.
He urged other stakeholders to collaborate with government by undertaking similar projects in their areas, saying such would go a long way at improving the learners' wellbeing and promoting their overall academic performance.
The Chairman informed that his administration had also initiated the construction of ’VIP toilets’ and classrooms, promising to focus more on provision of modern facilities, in tandem with state government's policies.
Speaking, a representative of the Foundation, Princess Shade Alatishe, commended the Local Government Council for its support, pledging to continue to render assistance where necessary.
The project was dedicated in memory of Patience Bartholomew, a student who tragically lost her life due to the lack of adequate toilet facilities in the school.
