Democracy a living veritable means of national development - Hon. Akingbade

The lawmaker representing Imeko Afon State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Jemili Akingbade, as described democracy as a living entity and veritable means of national development.

Akingbade a three time member of the Assembly stated this in his Democracy Day address held on Wednesday, at the Onimeko Conference Centre, remarked that the annual Democracy Day is dedicated to honour the principles of freedom, equality, and governance by the people as expressed by Nigerians during the annulled June 12, 1993 Presidential election.

Akingbade expressed felicitation to President Bola Tinubu, the State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, and all Nigerians. He prayed for the repose of the soul of Bashorun M.K.O Abiola. Hon Jemili remarked that June 12 is a day to reflect on the values that formed the bedrock of the current democratic journey, the society, and a day to reaffirm commitment to the democratic ideals that have shaped our nation.

He added that part of the celebration of the democracy day with his constituents, he resolved to flag-off a Scholarship Award to students and a Mega Empowerment program with a view to equipping people with various items and cash to enhance their socio-economic status.

In his address, the Local Government Chairman Hon Yaya Fadipe, ably represented by Hon Lawrence Akindele, the Leader of the Legislative Arm of Imeko/Afon Local Government, urged Imeko Afon people to remember the struggles and sacrifices of those who fought tirelessly for the establishment and preservation of current democratic dispensation. 

Hon Jemili Akingbade urged Imeko Afon people and indeed Nigerians to acknowledge that "democracy is a continuous journey, not a destination, that requires constant vigilance, dialogue, and effort to address the challenges we face"  He enjoined his constituents to continue to support the administration of Prince Dapo Abiodun in the State in his quest to make life more meaningful for Ogun State residents.

 Hon Akingbade also commended the various developmental  interventions of Senator Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) that is signposted with construction of roads, classroom, health facilities and community Halls. Akingbade prayed for more successful endeavor and sound health for Senator Adeola. He also acknowledged Hon Gboyega Isiaka continuos efforts aimed at impacting the life of good people of Yewa North Federal Constituency. 

Amongst various dignitaries that graced the event were Hon Olaleye, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon Segun Olalotan, APC Local Government Party Chairman, High Chief Dele Oderinde, Tayese of  Yewaland, others includes Elder Aninkan traditional leaders and Clergymen as well as Student of Tertiary institutions who are indigines of Imeko Afon Local Government area. 

In their seperate  comments, some of the beneficiaries of Hon Jemili Akingbade's support initiative, Madam Morufat Ajaba, Alhaja Fasilat Akindele and Hon Abigeal Ajenifuja appreciated Hon Akingbade for his commitment to raise standard of living of Imeko Afon people through his numerous projects and programmes.

Similaly, Master Biobaku Lekan, a 400 Level undergraduate student of the University of Benin, on behalf of other student beneficiaries, applauded Hon. Akingbade for his vision and passion for educational development. 

He opined that the Scholarship Award, no doubt, will help to cushion the hardship faced by Imeko Afon origins who are students across various institutions in the country. 

He added that in no too-long distance, the beneficiaries upon completion of their studies and good job opportunities will also be able to plough back towards the development of their fatherland. 

Summarily, Akingbade urged his constituenta to see the support being provided as a token of his appreciation for their support.

 He encouraged them to embrace the diversity of the local government and foster a culture of tolerance and respect. He appreciated God for granting him good health and wished Nigerians Happy Democracy Day.
