The Idomila community in Ijebu Northeast local government area of Ogun State has staged a protest rally on Saturday over the deplorable state of their major road, which has caused immense hardship and suffering for residents.
The community members displayed placards with inscriptions which includes "Bike man, Motorist are avoiding this road, "Gov. Dapo Abiodun, we appeal to you to fix Idomila road, " We believe in you, Prince Dapo Abiodun, Fix Idomila road for us, it's a death trap."
The road, which connected the community to the Army Barracks of Ilese, has become a death trap, with deep pits and potholes have claimed at least one life in the community while others hospitalized.
Alhaji Kunle Sanni, Chairman of the Idomila Elders Council, and Mrs. Dahunsi Oderinde, a community member while speaking to newsmen appealed to Governor Abiodun to intervene and repair the road.
They noted that the community had voted overwhelmingly for the governor's emergence and had high hopes that he would address their long-standing request.
The community has attempted to fill the potholes with bags and broken blocks, spending millions of naira in the process.
However, the road remains in a terrible state, hindering access to the market, schools, and other essential amenities.
The residents are pleading with the governor to assist them, citing his support for other communities in the state.
They emphasized that the road's repair is crucial for their well-being, economic activities, and social lives.
According to the Chairman of the Idomila Elders Council, Alhaji Kunle Sanni said "Landlords and tenants within Idomila communities are now on sick bed because because of the bad road .
"We want the Governor to assist us to repair this road for us . Let them check their records, in Idomila we voted wholeheartedly for the emergence of the governor . We have 938 houses in Idomila community , we have about a million people in this community .
"This road is a major road connecting the Army Barracks of Ilese . The major occupation in this community is marketing and farming.
"Infact , we lost one of our elderly person due to this bad road" he said.
