By Miracle Okoro, Abeokuta

A Catholic Priest of the St. Peter’s Church in Ruai, Murang’a County in Kenya, has died, after his supposed girlfriend with whom he had spent the night in a hotel room, rushed him unconscious to the hospital for medical attention.

According to Kenyan local media, Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, aged 43, who had previously held the position of Parish Parish, checked into the hotel on the night of Friday ( July 7, 2023) with his suspected lover, a 32-year-old beauty. But by 8 am on Saturday, the priest was unresponsive alarming the lady who swiftly informed the hotel management.

With dispatch, Fr. Kariuki, whose body was covered only with a cloth from the hotel and foaming at the mouth and nose, was sent to the nearest hospital, Kenol Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

“One Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku a k/m/a aged 43yrs old, a Catholic priest at Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer at Mangu area checked in at the said hotel together with his girlfriend who also happens to be her colleague at the workplace in Ruai,” it read in part.

Around 8 am on Saturday, the lady is said to have notified the hotel’s management that Kariuki was getting dizzy and unconscious, which prompted a visit to a nearby hospital.

They then rushed him to Kenol hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival while still aboard his motor vehicle Toyota Harrier black in colour,” the police report said.

His body has been moved to a hospital in the Capital, Nairobi, for preservation and autopsy.

Catholic Priests are to remain celibate – never marry and never have sexual intercourse so far as they serve as priests.
