The federal government has cancelled the planned sale of subsidized 50-kilogram bags of rice to public servants, which was initially set at N40,000 per bag.
The decision to cancel the sale of the commodity was contained in a circular titled “Withdrawal of Internal Circular on Sale of Subsidized Rice to Public Servants,” dated August 2.
Recall that at the commencement of the nationwide hunger protest on August 1, the Federal Government through the Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs Human Resources Management Department announced its intention to alleviate the situation, stating the subsidised sale of bags of rice.
No explanation was provided for the abrupt reversal of the policy.
