PRESERVE THE VALUES AND LEGACIES OF EGBA GENERALISSIMO- OGUN DEP GOV . URGES OGUNBONAS

By Our Correspondent

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele has urged the descendants of Ogunbona, one of the greatest warriors to emerge from Egbaland to continue to preserve the values as well as legacies of their forebear as they reflect on the life and times of the great Egba Generalissimo.

The Deputy Governor who stated this in her remarks at a reunion ceremony, marking the 163rd anniversary of the Egba Generalissimo, held at Olumo rock tourist complex hall in Abeokuta, also stressed the need to draw inspirations from Ogunbona’s dedication to his homestead, describing him as a man who rose to the demands of his era.

“Ogun state government is proud of the contributions of Egba people to the development of our state and the nation. This reunion serves as a vital platform to reaffirm our shared values of excellence, communal spirit and resilience. As we gather here today, let the spirit of unity, cooperation and neutral support  continue to thrive within us". She said

According to her 'as we celebrate the past, we must also look to the future with the same courage and foresight that characterised Ogunbona's life. The same way he rose to the demands of his era, so also must we rise to the demands of ours as well, by keeping the torch of his legacies burning’.

While saying the reunion does not just offer them the opportunity to strengthen family bonds, she charged the descendants of the great man to make very good use of revolving times, to create tangible memorabilia through the use of the Internet and social media as a common point of reference where they can all have inputs alongside sharing ideas

Earlier in his welcome address, the Olori-ebi Omoba, Surveyor Rotimi Meadows-Ogungbona, said the 163 year anniversary of the Ogungbona's became imperative in recognition of their relentless efforts towards the development of Egbaland, noting that their forebearer fought for the unity and development of Egbaland before his demise, calling on all sons and daughters of Egba to be more united, coordinated and work together towards the growth of Egbaland.

Highlight of the event was a documentary of the Egba generalissimo.
