The Ogun State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is set to host the maiden edition of “Media Parliament,” a platform aimed at fostering constructive discussions between journalists and key stakeholders.
The first guest will be Babatunde Osibodu Esq, Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), scheduled for Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024.
According to the NUJ, the event, which will be hosted by the Union’s Chairman, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, aims to provide insights into OGSIEC’s mandate, initiatives, and plans for the forthcoming elections, promoting transparency and accountability.
The “Media Parliament” will offer journalists a unique opportunity to engage with Osibodu, sharing perspectives on electoral issues affecting the state.
The NUJ believes this direct engagement will bridge information gaps and foster a collaborative atmosphere as the state prepares for the elections.
The event is expected to promote a better understanding of OGSIEC’s activities and commitment to free and fair elections in Ogun State.
In a statement by the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, the Union believe that “The direct engagement between the commission and the media will present a unique opportunity for journalists to share their perspectives on electoral issues as they affect the State, bridge gaps in information and foster a collaborative atmosphere as we prepare for the elections.
“As we approach the upcoming elections, the role of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) becomes increasingly vital in ensuring that free and fair elections prevail in our democracy”, the statement reads.
