The ancient town of Ilaro, in Ogun West Senatorial District, yesterday played host to a grand celebration, as the annual "Oronna Day" festivities evolved into a full-fledged national carnival. This year's event was particularly significant, as it brought together a diverse array of dignitaries from across Nigeria.
Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun and his deputy, Engineer Mrs. Noimat Salako Oyedele, were among the prominent guests in attendance. They were joined by dignitaries from all six geo-political zones, including 50 senators led by the Deputy Senate President, members of the House of Representatives, ministers, royal fathers, and captains of industry.
The event was hosted by the distinguished Senator Adeola Olamilekan Solomon YAYI, a Senator representing the good people of Ogun West who played a pivotal role in elevating the celebration to a national carnival. The festivities provided a unique opportunity for Nigerians from all walks of life to come together and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Ilaro people. Senator YAYI as fondly called by his people "Transformer" complements the effort of the Governor in infrastructure and social amenities.
At the heart of the celebration is the commemoration of the hero of the Ilaro people, which is the essence of "Oronna Day." This annual event has become an integral part of the town's cultural calendar, promoting unity, cultural awareness, and community development.
The Olú of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Gbadewolu Olugbenle, was the royal host of the grand celebration, which showcased the town's rich cultural traditions and warm hospitality. As the people of Ilaro celebrated their heritage, they were joined by Nigerians from diverse backgrounds, fostering a sense of national unity and pride.
The transformation of "Oronna Day" into a national carnival is a testament to the growing recognition of Ilaro's cultural significance and its potential to promote national unity and integration. As Nigeria continues to evolve as a nation, events like the "Oronna Day" celebration serve as a reminder of the importance of preserving and celebrating our rich cultural diversity.
